tangles in my braid

I've got a 50g rod with a small fixed spool for a bit of light sport macki bashing. Its loaded with 15lb braid and i use a 50g lure. It casts great but at least once a session i get knots and tangles in the braid that stop play. This is just from casting and retrieving.

I use a swivel to the clip on with a 30" length of 20Ib mono as a rubbing leader.

Any advice on anything I could be doning wrong.

Are you getting these when casting?.
If so,its because the spool is over filled.Leave at least an 8th of an inch of the spool showing when you fill it with the braid.

just try to cast as smooth as you can.happens to most of us {i think},more so if its windy. as also said above,dont fill spool your spool to much.

Could be the braid your using or even the reel its self. What's the braid your using and what's the reel?

I use a daiwa reel with a twist buster and .23 power pro and have never had any problems. Another good braid suitable for fixed spool reels is the original fireline.

After a cast do you turn the reel handle to close the bail arm? If yes, stop. Manually close your bail arm, then pull the braid to make sure there's no loose loop on the spool. No more wind knots and it becomes second nature very fast.

What rod are you using and where is the butt ring in relation to the butt ring? Sounds like the usual braid to mono leader problem you get with a big rod just on a smaller scale. Either ditch the mono leader, shorten it so it's just inside the rings or use a heavier braid leader as a shock leader. Mono coming off a fixed spool causes big coils which jam up in the rings on the way out causing the following loose braid to back up in the rings causing wind knots or worse a crack off.

could be a combination of lots of things ,mind you as previously mentioned berkley original fireline takes some beating i never have a problem with it yet but whiplash and powerpro i have occasional probs .

you will be causing it when reeling in. with braid you cant reel in slack then tight line. when using your lure you could be working the lure and reeling in bits of very slack line. jerking the lure will also do this. when you come to cast, the tight and slack line coming off the spool causes what gets called wind knots. [a bunch of loose knotted line].

when you work your lure try to reel the line on with some tension. pull the rod back and wind the reel in to bring the rod foreward. don't pull the rod back, drop it foreward then reel up the slack. this is what will be causing your problem.
