• Stuck joints

Hi, I've just started to get the urge to get back into fishing after a 5 year break. To clear the cobwebs I took my Tip Tornado down the coast this morning to have a few casts, on putting the sections together I noticed the joint seemed considerably tighter than what I remembered. I ended up forcing the sections together to get the usual 1 1/2" (ish) gap I used to achieve. Well, after a few casts I got back to the car and discovered I couldn't separate the rod, so I drove all the way back to Chester Le Street with it sticking out my passenger side window. I finally got it separated by spraying the joint with freeze spray and with an extra set of hands twisting both sections.
Now, I read some old threads about ptfe spray so I nipped out and purchased, this hasn't really made a difference. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Would the lack of used over the past 5 years have caused this?
Many thanks

How was your rod stored ? Was it in a bag or propped up against a wall as most so lol.you probably need the joint cleaned get a bottle brush warm soapy water and give inside the spigot a good clean then let it dry reapply ptfe and try again

Hi, it had been stored horizontally, I've got some gutter brackets fitted on the garage wall to keep them away from harms reach. I'll try that, thanks for the quick reply.

an old indian trick years ago was to rub it with the lead of a pencil which lubricated it without making it greasy

https://s20.postimg.org/3rkrtrjft/image.jpg[/img]Not sure if anyone's interested but I've put the rods in the conservatory with the connecting sections taped into a plastic bag containing silica gels, these should remove all moisture. I'll let you know how it goes as it may be a handy tip for someone.
