  • Can anyone recommend some scales?

I recently purchased some cheap digital scales and took them out for a session in heavy rain which instantly killed them and they no longer work. Can anyone recommend a good set of digital scales that weighs in pounds and ounces and that are waterproof? I have had a search on the net and the only ones I can find that claim to be "water resistant" are Rapala Pro Guide Digital Scales which go for about £40. Anyone used these or can recommend anything else? Alternatively are there any good spring scales that will measure small fish (les than 2lb) to the nearest 1oz. Thanks.

    Hi mate,
Don't know if you are a member on e-bay, but there is a used set of "WAYMASTER" scales up for auction at present. They weigh up to 12lbs in half ounce increments, so small fish can be weighed very accurately. I know you would prefer digital ones, but I have the same WAYMASTER model (also bought used on e-bay) and they are excellent : easy to read and very reliable. No batteries needed !
    PS : I paid £11.00 for mine + postage

Thanks lads those Flyweight ones look ideal. The Reuben Heaton ones look like the exact same scales as the Waymaster ones but with a different sticker on the front. I will put in an Ebay bid.
          Cheers.

Just check the IP rating of the products. to be used outside in rain the IP must be 44. i.e IP44 but I'd go for 46 to be honest.
Failing finding IP rated scales get yourself another set of cheap scales and use gasket seal or plumbers tape around the seems (opening it then putting it through the seals).
Species: Cod, Bass, Coalie, Flounder, Dab, Rockling, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, L/S Scorpion, Common Blenny, Weaver (unfortunately), Whiting, Common Eel, Trout, Pike... think that's it

Reuben Heaton are probably the best scale manufacturer out there, have a look at the flyweight scales, been around for years, and very reliable.
