  • thinking of fishing seaton sluice thurs

i have never fished here before but had a look around while walking the dog, it looks quite interesting at low tide so was thinking of going thurs, high tide just before 1300 and casting into the surf. would like a bit of advice, am prepared to find out where on the beach is good but would like anyone with local knowledge to let me know if i am wasting my time this time of year in the daytime. If anyone could point me in the right direction with bait and tackle would be appreciated. what
, if anything am i likely to catch? would i be better off at low tide here?

    thanks

i used to fish off the hartley skeer/island in low tide..havent been there for a year as i have bad legs and there is a mountain to climb (litterally!) ... i would exect to see whiting coalie and even picked up a small wrasse.

i used to park just down the dirt track from the delavel arms and walk down the steps to the cove...its nice and covered so the wind is low but u need a good cast to get over some rocky patches.

      thanks for the advice

not been fishing enough to develop a god cast so might give the skeers a miss for now, would fishing alongside them cut down on the tackle losses

when the tide is fully out you can get passed them...or you could cast off into the centre of the cove its pretty clear there...but expect to lose gear..rottenbottoms would be advisable ...also a good place is blyth beach where the harbour warehouses are, fish beside the rotten beams that go out to seawhen the tide is fully out (just throw it straight out as far as you can)..theres a big gulley there and you can get some very nice fish.

        hope that helps mate.

Hi mate, ill tell u a few marks round the sluice area. Firstly, is the breakwater. Fish 2hrs either side of high water and cast towards cambois lighthouse, ground is clear here as long as u clear the rocks (about 30yards). Dont fish here if its rough as it gets swamped. Ive had flatties, coalies, whiting, small codling and small bass from here. The beach itself has many sandbars and gullies that move round all the time. Opposite the astley arms used to be a good low water shot but i havnt fished there for a while. Further up the beach, there is a good shot behind the farm. Lads have had fish all states of the tide this year but the flood has been best for me. Next is the groynes, opposite the mermaid cafe, again over low water and back up is probably the best time here. The pipe at the top of blyth beach has produced a few fish aswell. I prefer 3hrs either side of low here. All these marks are better during darkness but i think there will still be a few flounders to be had during daylight. hope this helps.

              fishing sluice area

hi mate i have fished the sluice for years, high tides my best shot is crag point if not to rough , or down the left hand side of crag casting between round rocks and crag, if a good sea is on go to the scout hut and go down the bottom of the ramp cast out 12 oclock or 1 oclock, or go onto rocky island go to the sumps that 80 meters up from break water, cast towards blyth pier, if you do low water charleys skeer cast out at 1 ocl$ock it is safe you wont get cut off, however the skeer is halls that is the skeer to the left of charleys if a big sea on it can be a bit dodgey, but a very good shot thats where i go for the opens, luck mate might even get down myself if i get off work early.

There's going to be a sea running by thursday evening, which should make conditions perfect, with low tide at 7pm, park at the toilets in the middle of the beach, walk through the sand dunes where you will see a water pipe. Either side of that 2 hrs of low water and your in with a good chance of cod and whitings as long as the sea is not too big. Wear chest waders.

                  beach

hi mate, just to let you know sluice/blyth beach fishing well lots of whiting flounders and if sea running cod. baits lug/rag for cod, rag tipped with mackerel for the whiting. every time theres a sea on the dips or holes in the sand move but two holes have remained all year. sluice end far end of car park pipe sticks up out of beach hole in line with this. 2hrs down 2 up best. also my fav hole meggies burn blyth end very large hole straight down 2hrs down 2 up best. 2 hook flapper for cod 2/3 hook short snoods for whiting. good luck guaranteed you wont blank!
