  • Fishing at distance over rough ground

When I fish over rough ground i usually just lob baits out at fairly close distance with simple 1 hook flappers with an upside down rig clip for a rotten bottom but thinking of blasting baits out as far as a can manage.

So what I am wondering is for those of you who fish at distance over heavy ground which rigs and components do you use as i dont want to be blasting a rig out with the lead on an upside down rig clip. But I also dont want to be spending loads on rig components.

Also what line do you usually use as I dont want to fish to light and end up tying shockleader on all the time but I don't want to fish too heavy so it hinders distance loads.

30lb straight through and a clipped pennel pulley.

Hes talking about fishing at distance, thats a recipe for disaster . Any type of power casting with 30lb line and no shockleader is dangerous to anyone in the vicinity .

Nawt wrong with this setup, I use it and fish safely with a rotton bottom out to 120 yards. A better set up would be 18 - 20 lb line 60lb shocker pulley with 10lb weak link (clipped). As for a reel, I use a shimano speedmaster. Nuff said!
        Stay safe!

i use a clipped down pulley rig or pulley dropper rig, go for 0.40 line diameter and i use at least 80lb shockleader.
personally i use upside down gemini genie clips, as long as you've got a smooth casting style then they work fine.

If you want good distance mate you've got to use a light line plus a shock leader

20lb sensor with a good 60-80lb shokker. ya wont get much distance with 30lb straight through and will probs end up cracking of if ya power casting. i use a clipped down rig for distance over the hard, i just put a genie clip on the right way then another one threaded onto this one but upside down to clip sinker onto. i lash it and the sinker has never dropped off the clip while casting.

another good way is use a pulley rig and your clip upside down the way you are now. but get some sinkers with baitclips on and jus clip ya hook down to that instead of having more rig components too snag.

me personally wen fishing real heavy kelpy ground wont fish with less than 35lb straight through, with a weak link of 15lb. 1 single big cod hook with a big crab bait on and lob it 40 - 50 yards.

Think I'm going to use 30lb F1 as i've heard its a strong enough line ( even though its hopeless in low breaking strains) and its a low diamater and couple it with an 80 leader.
Then just use a simple clip down with an imp with a genie breaker attached to the imp.
Only downside is the cost to make the rig and the high chance of me not getting the rig back.

No reason you shouldnt get it back most the time if using a hook which will bend out and a weak link for the wieght

are you going to be using a weak link still?

imo F1 is crap over rock. it frays like the collar on ya grandas owld jumpa. and ya aint gunna get much distance with 30lb with an 80 shocker. if the conditions are right ya dont need to be chucking megga distances anyow. stick with 35lb straight through. good bait and plop it in a nice gulley.

F1 is fairly low diameter in 30lb thats why i want to use it (.45 mm) but the downside to that will obviously be its abrasion resistance and yes will be using a 18lb weak link.

If it all goes wrong with loosing loads of leader trying to use lighter lines then i'll jsut go back to lobbing baits with me 80lb braid
