There was a cod caught over 27lb further up river by a Hartlepool lad few years ago which smashed records.I have no doubt you saw a similar fish. The river is very deep and crawling with crab. Its a good reason for fish to there.

hahaha if only the big cod in the river bit as hard as you lads on here then yas would all be breaking records.

never mind il have to send me mate wilson up and the rest of the hpool codders. he will catch it like last time with the 27lber

il tell him to bring his float outfit with a jar of muscle

What a nasty remark, why say such a horrid thing or be an idiot like that, it just gets you and like another member said us other anglers a bad reputation.

It stands to reason that if theres seals around theres fish around, as they wouldnt be there for nowt else.

On the last two occassions when I had fish of 4lb 5ozs and 5lb 2ozs there were seals around... stands to reason this is a good and proper theory... if theres seals about, theres fish about too...

We fished the Groyne the same day and something huge flipped in the water only about 6 feet out from us. It was definitely a fish not a seal. Just caught a glimpse of the tail end of it as it went down. It was like when you just see the Sea Trout in the summer where you don't see them jump but you hear the splash and see them just go back in the water. Much too late in the year for one of them I reckon.
It was only when I read this post that I remembered about this.
May have been the same one.

Seen a similar sized fish at Ice house a few weeks back.
Got a good look at it and it was def a fish, but was hard to tell colour coz of colour in water, but it sat just below the surface for 3-4 seconds then seen us and went down..
I wasnt the only one who seen it either, it was masssssive.
