    Fishing shields pier tomorow nite, havnt fished for anything other than mackerel there, anybody got any advice on best place to fish, distances rigs etc, any help would b great to help me get my first winter cod/codling, will b using frozen crab lug mussel and squid.

    Mark 42-44 is a good spot,The end will probably be pretty busy...i usually use a single or 2 hook flapper, did you get your order of crab from taylors??

      Fish the 40 marks mate, seaward side, and chuck as far as you can to avoid snags.

        Its pretty clean after about 50 yards out...but reel in fast the last 50 :P

            I a got them mate ordered 60 stock up fr xmas, so how far up is that? Is it before the old toilets on the right or after? Didnt think the pier wud b busy thru the night lol cheers for advice lads as im jus learning the ropes

              Just look for the painted markings mate...i think 42 is painted in grey paint and pretty clear comparedd to 44.. yeah he said he had a chris scott coming in for some..took mine out the freezer ready for tomorrow

                    Used to be painted on the walls also. Should have repainted them over the last 6 months it took them to paint the hand rail.

                      Get yourself to the end of the pier mate on the deep water. Get pennel rigs on, big hooks (3/0 and bigger), and especially big baits. Those cod are oot there.

                      Use large cocktail baits, whether it be crab, mussels, razor, clam, squid, martini, spritzer, etc! . These baits (bar the last two or else ya drunk ) will produce a nice scent trail and attract some bigger cod hopefully.

                      I fished there monday and had a Codling of 4lb 2ozs on an up n over rig armed with 5/0 hooks, a few lugworm and 2 whole razor, fished at distance.
