Mag 525 versus Mag2 525

Need a new reel for the pier and stuff to load lighter line and a shock leader, as i've got a SLOSH for the rough ground etc, and these reels have been reccomended.
Just after some thoughts on the difference betwen the two, pros and cons etc, faults, best one etc. Am gonna buy a new one but thought a would ask the forum first.
Any help would be appreciated.

Theres only 2 things different between the two reels.
The metal trim on the side plates are now gold instead of black and the plate that lifts the pinion gear inside is now metal instead of plastic.
You will have to remove the spool bearings and clean them in lighter fuel as they are thick with grease when new.

Like bushwacker said, the 525 mag2's are thick of grease. I took the bearings out and soaked them in petrol/lighter fluid then oiled them up with yellow rocket fuel. The reel run likes a dream. My 2nd reel is a 525 and i enjoy using that too but my 1st choice would defo be the 525mag2.

Apart from looking a bit different and newer, there aint much difference between the two of them, but the 525 mag2 has much better mag system.

standard 525mag is better in my opinion. the newer ones dont seem as smooth on the retrieve.

Ive got both the slosh 30 and 525 mag2 i find the 525 is a lot smoother than the slosh and will use it with lighter line as you say
I havnt had the mag apart yet to mention about the grease butine runs like a dream

Thanks Davey, Ive bought it now and will let you know how it gans. At the moment though am " Peter got the gear but has no idea" as you can see by my PB, but am still on it like a car bonnet, trying to get the illusive Coddy.

Just stick at it mate - tight lines

the MAIN difference is that the spool on the new one is balanced more finely.

try ceramics and yellow rocket fuel.

A wouldnt gan hoyin rocket fuel in it yet mate until you get a good el for the reel as they pretty quick anyway

both class reels without a shadow of a doubt the way foreward is mag 2 525
