  • Light line v heavy line fishing

I would like to ask my friends on NESA what is your favorite fishing on a perfect day. 1/ mixed ground from piers fishing using 20/30lb line..stiffish rod.
2/rough ground heavy kelp, braid or 40lb mono, ultra stiff rod for hawking thru the kelp and a winching machine for a reel.
3/A fine light rod with good bight detection,15lb line on a small fast multiplier thats capable of long distance casting on semi clean beaches.

Harry when i fish spots i like to use two rods. One ttr and supermag missiled out with 15-18 lb line for any big fish lurking about. The other rod a Salt Bass with fixed spool and 17lb braid fished close in usually with fish baits such as bluey or mackeral. This outfit has caught loads more fish than my TTR.
    Mick.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Mmmm, I think variety is the spice of life! Most of my fishing probably falls into "b"; summer fishing up the coast for reddies & much of my winter fishing is also from rocks and kelp, but around this time of year I really look forward to getting on the beaches and doing a bit of "c". Had some real fun the last few weeks with my match rod & little reels with 15lb line on the sand getting cod to 7 & 1/4lb - however a couple of months or so is all I can take of sand-blasted sessions where half the beach ends up going home with you!!

Throw in a fair bit of "a" too - I always like a bit of mixed ground fishing; somehow feels like you've got a few more options as to where to find fish - but I absolutely hate pier fishing; only times you'll find me on the piers (usually Blyth) is for a few springtime plaice sessions, once or twice in the summer to stock up on mackerel (only once this year) and when the sea is absolutely mountainous, rendering most of the coast unfishable - that's usually when it fishes best. I'll occasionally have a trip to Shields pier in the spring as well if the fishing is completely dead locally, but 99% of the time give me the open shore any day of the week.

Prefer light line on the open beach with a nice swell coming in,used to love daytime but fish mostly at night now as it is more productive.Find fishing piers boring unless plenty of fish about and detest crowded venues especially mackie time.

I am the same Rod,on the beach with a nice swell running.Day or night.
Its a pain fishing heavy ground, pulling for a break every cast, loosing gear and having to bully fish out.

                Hello Harry,
I love all kinds of fishing but I'm at my happiest when I'm fishing the rock ends with heavy line, simple blood loop rigs chucking out big crab or mussel baits. Most of the time on my own because I'm becoming a right miserable old sod nowadays.

                Regards Ian

love light line fishing, trundling a small bomb round in the tide holding the rod feeling for bites. mostly for flatties and coalies. even when u catch nout its more entertaining for me than just sitting on my arse watching the tip

Nice question mate. Pier fishing is good for a chat and cos it's easy but there's nowt better than light line, a massive empty beach, dark night, searching out for holes full of flatties, whities, codling..... Good for the sole
