What basically happened was that the Heugh has a barrier across it but all you have to do is hop over the wall railings on the sea side and go past the fence on a walkway thats only about a foot and a half wide It sounds dodgy but its alright once you get used to it, just dont fish the place in high sea\"s!
What happened with Middleton was one night our old fella and our kid were on. Only people fishing the pier on a wedensaday night big sea running went on at midnight came off at 7 and the front of the pier had a massive hole in where the sea had taken it away. The council filled the hole then Starblocked the front of the pier like they have done with the rest of the piers round here then put a big gate up blocking entry to the pier, anyway one sunday I was going on and found some bloke with a hacksaw sawing the big lock off the gate and there hasn\"t been one since.
If they do this to the North Gare this\"ll just happen.

Marky thanks for that mate, sounds very familiar ,same happened years ago at skinningrove jetty .they put up gates,so we all climbed round the side till someone put a hole in it ,then last year they decided to put concete blocks in front of it and there was talk of the council blowing it up .Then theres whitby east pier ,you cant get to the end as the gang way across has been taken away ,thats been like that for 2 years .I wrote a letter to scarborough council asking how long till it was replaced ,they said in around about fashion that it would probably be 2 years ,yeah right. Then theres all that sea defences along marine drive at scarborough .seems that someone doesn\'t like our pastimes
