Im looking to buy a new rod and want to find a shop that has a good selection of rods in ie: anyfish, ian golds etc. I fish both sand and mixed ground beach marks and also rocks, so an all round rod is what i am after, something with a bit of backbone but with good bite detection. Ive had a look on northeast tackle supplies website and they dont seem to stock the ian golds range which is one of the ranges i was wanting to take a look at :-/. Is there any other shops in the sunderland/newcastle area which any of you could recommend? Im still not sure what im going to be buying and want to have a good look at a good selection. Any input would be great thanks.

Rutherfords is a good place to start, but what your wanting,a rod for sand, mixed ground and the rocks is a big ask,not sure it exists though im sure someone will say otherwise, rods for the rough ground tend to have stiffer tips to compensate for pulling through the kelp and rock etc, where match rods will cover the sand and mixed ground with excellent bite indication but will be found wanting on the heavy ground, only my opinion but most lads have a couple of rods for both types of fishing ...Angling Trust/UKCC Level 2 Sea Angling and Coarse Fishing Coach at www.fishingnortheast.co.uk or follow us on Facebook fishingnortheast.co.uk

cheers for the replies lads, i have a grauvel surf rod there that does the trick for the sand and mixed ground (pulls fish in spot on), it would be ideal if it was 13 1/2 to 14 foot, but it is defo no good for those snaggier marks, my friend has a af/aw rock rod but for me its a little on the stiff side (as in poker style) At the mo i want a 14 foot rod that can handle the snaggier areas, was wanting to take a look at the extractor as the write up i read sounded ideal and not as pokey as some decent rock rods, Just want to be able to pick up a few rods (including the ian golds) to see what feels right for me, I will know which rod is right when i see n feel it.

Hi,
you will be very lucky to find an Ian Golds Extractor anywhere as he,s actually stopped producing his range of rods and he,s sold his buisness to Diawa the only place you might find one maybe on E-bay but then you will have to be very lucky.
A good friend of mine scoured the internet for a couple of weeks before he came across one and then it had to be sent from Ireland so GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

My experience is you tend to find arod is good for clean to mixed ground or rough to mixed ground. Obviously anything that handles the rough will work on clean ground but won't have the sensitivity. The best I've had for sometime for all round work is a Sonik SK4. Handles big fish and picks up small bites. Works with 15lb - 40lb lines.
