On tips on fishing the Ice house at North Shields.

Having fished this a few times and only ever caught a couple of flatties how far out do you need to chuck because even with rotten bottoms on I lose all my gear!

Any help would be well appreciated.

Hello mate,to get the best out of this mark you need to be putting your bait at least 90-100 yards. As for losing gear, this goes with the territory.Try just one hook (clipped down) and avoid the biggest tides. Why not try Smiths around the corner?the bottom is alot cleaner without the need to cast as far.

to fish the ice house you need a decent cast around 100 + yds, the ground is ok here, the reason your losing all your tackle is there is a large chain that runs paralell to the quay the full length, around midwater, when you retrieve your gear, hopefully with a fish on, wind in as quick as you can and dont stop, thats the only way to get ot past the chain.
ive seen lots of fish caught here, with a chuck around 20 yds out, further up past the ice house is the old ferry landing, its quite productive there too, up river.

Try using a pulley rig which sometimes helps, especially with a fish on.

Thanks Lads To be perfectly honest I dont fish this area much but the Ice house is one of those venues thats always puzzled me.

100 yards + I better get out onto the field and up my distances!

To Be honest I wouldnt know how to get to Smiths.
