Please answer this honestly for me then, once the master locked the gates, the pier was deemed out of bounds.

Ok, put another twist to it, say it was inbounds to anyone already on the pier from when the gate was opened until the gate was locked, Therefore that means anyone who climbed around to get onto the pier was actually fishing out of bounds, as you state, " the rules stated if the gate was LOCKED the pier was out of bounds" those anglers should have been disqualified to, Rules are rules, closed = out of bounds.

No i aint a member, i didnt fish the open either, first 1 i have missed in the last 10 yrs though, just wanted some clarification on the exact meaning of the rules.

Do i agree that the lad broke the rules, YES, but after being told by 2 committee members he was ok to fish on, that should have stood, basic coommon sense and logic to me

Without jumping the gun can every one on here wait until they see the letter from the PORT OF TYNE and then give there opinion, It will be on tonight at some stage it was to be in every fishing tackle shop in south shields and from what i have been told it was only in one shop, I myself is sorry about the outcome but to be honest i think this is going a bit to far before you have seen the facts there is a lot of people out there that think they know, When all every person fishing the open if they were not sure of the rules all they had to do was ASK

He did ask if he should walk off the pier with all his gear then walk back but was told by an official this was not necassary and that he was allowed to fish and weigh in.
I do agree with you though. We should be told all the facts before reaching a conclusion.
By the way, to D Turnbull who was declared the winner on the day, very nice fish mate and well done on the catch. Shame this has took a bit of the shine off your win and good luck.

Probably not Paul, and i dont suppose the commitee would condone cilmbing on or off the pier especially when provision had been made for comfort breaks.

sless i know i dont fish anymore ,but still look in on this site (as you know, and was in the New Crown on sunday when this was all happening - also as you know ha ha ) BUT can i play devils advocate

do you know if every angler got a copy of this letter - or were they just expected to "know" about this rule - ,seems to be major confusion

some say the lad was wrong ,many saying he was right (in the way he asked first and sought permissions etc etc )

i know your not on committee , but seems you have been asked to post a copy of letter ,so asking if every angler got a copy ,or just the normal rule book that you get when buying your ticket

no every angler didnt get a copy, seemingly these were meant to have been in tackle shops when people bought tickets,
cant confirm they were, but ive been told they were not tho
