could a committee member please clarify a point for me

No fishing allowed where access to the public is denied, i understand that point,
the point i miss is

The pier gates were then locked, ( in your own words, open for comp but NOT to public) which then DENIES access to the public, so surely going by your rules anyone fishing the pier was out of bounds, as they were actually fishing where NO ACCESS TO THE PUBLIC wa\s allowed.

i am very intrigued to hear a response to this, so i imagine are many many others

All entries had a ticket, which they had to present to the marshal at the first gate after 8am, this was on the letter produced by the port of tyne authority. The port of tyne authority make an exception for the open competition every year, which we are very grateful for, the port of tyne authority will tell you that there is no fishing on the south pier without permission and public liability insurance. hope this answers your question .

Does the marshal at the first gate stay there all through the comp or does he leave and comes back to lock the gate ?? if the gates is lock half way through the comp them the lads that climb on there should also be disqualified.

I the chairman of the s/s angling club have been reading your comments carefully regarding the disqualification of an angler yesterday,firstly i was the one who asked the angler to weigh in before the committee held their meeting to establish all the facts. The rules were clearly stated in local tackle shops and in the program which all anglers had a copy of,there was nobody to be past the gate before 8am which came from the port of tyne authority. the decision to disqualify the angler was not taken lightly, but if these rules had of been broken for one angler that would have caused outrage ! we are sorry but rules are there for a purpose and anybody who does not clearly understand them should contact one of the committee members or marshals. The open competition has been a successful event for 63 years, and would like to thank everyone for their support. We are very sorry for this outcome after what was a very successful day that was enjoyed by many, on behalf of the committee we hope to continue with the open competition for many more years. regards

Still no clear answer mate was everyone who was early on the pier disqualified cos im pretty sure the lad who shoulda won it waesn't the only one. Why dont yas hold ya hands up an say youz were wrong as the vast majority of comments on here say you are ?

Joe, sorry but it does not answer my question mate, my question is, and this is by your open rules,

Any areas not open to the public will be deemed as out of bounds, if the pier gates are closed to the public then surely the pier is out of bounds.
I can see both sides of the arguement here, but morally, legally and just using plain common sense, if the gates are locked, the pier is closed to members of the public ( regardless if the port of authority have allowed access to fish the open), therefore the pier is out of bounds, or am i missing something here

nope i think you got what i was trying to say in another thread jim, i take it you got a copy of the rules .just think of the implcations if this lad decides to take the club to court .id put money on the lad .

There was anglers fishing the round end during the comp but had not entered. The pics were on here yesterday.
I was gonna enter yesterday but am now glad something else came up.
The rules should apply to everyone or no one.
If it was me i would take it to the small claims court.

i just been told that more info will be on tonight so i am just gonna wait until i have all the details. Please dont anyone get me wrong here, i do think the rules are misleading with regards to NO FISHING where access to the public is denied, especially if the gates are closed to the public BUT at the end of the day the lad should not have been on before 8am, so in effect he broke the rules and on that note the committee were correct to disqualify him, however harsh it may seem i think it was the correct decision to make

question for you sir,if a marshall was present at the gate checking tickets after 8 am how come members of the public were on the pier fishing.

If you can,t go on the pier until the gates open it makes it into a race to get to the end. Its a mile or so. Thats one hell of a race with all of your fishing gear.
