The castle rocks at Tynemouth have chucked up the odd one. Trouble is no one really fishes with half a mackerel in the hope they might get lucky.

You never know m8 till you try your luck, but you will need some serious heavy tackle cause once they are hooked they go mental.good luck on your conger quest

i m from south wales i moved to yorkshire 20 years ago and i used to fish for the them a lot the biggest i landed of the shore was 25lb i used to use pulley rigs with a rotten bottom 100lb main body with a 50lb hook length and a grip lead we used either a mackerel fillet whole squid or i used to like fishing pouting we used to catch when we were fishing for cod we would cast out like a big black lug and squid bait for cod a whiting wood take the bait and we would normally leave it out there and get a cod or a decent conger we used to fish for them with 15lb line and a 80lb leader fishing rough ground there are some very big congers in wales we used to fish some marks down there and some time we would have traces bit through
        hope this helps

I was talking to an old boy who has crab pots around beadnell. He said this summer he has had three strap congers in his pots. Biggest he said was around 15lb. Thinks they come up the gullies during the cover of darkness.

I'm sure I hooked one at Cullernose years ago. It pulled my rod over and just kept going, I couldn't do anything with it. Just as I was about to have to tighten down on the drag to try and turn it, it bit through my trace.

I was set up to try some small tides this summer. Groundbait planned and everything. Just didn't get the chance but going to give it a shot when i can. I think it could throw up some suprises if enough time is spent on it.

Callum Donohoe's 34lb conger from Craster. As far as I am aware this is still the North East shore record
