Fished next to BA/AA buildings on sat night after sacking off the idea of trying for the cod on a rock mark in the ****ing rain. Got afew decent sized flounder and ALOT of whiting, but I had a very distinctive heavy knock when the tide turned which I would say was a cod nod! But completely missed it, but it lead me to think, do codling go up that far in the river? and if so where do you think the highest point anyone has caught a decent sized cod? Or if there is a recorded history what are the facts?

If I'm honest I very much doubt bass would be that far up. I'd have to see it to believe it. There is around the cut off point for salt water species. The only thing I could think it would be would be a false identification I.e a salmon/seatrout.Cod Mission: Cod over 5lb!

We had heard similar stories prior to the comp that a few had been caught and some of us were equally cynical until we witnessing it. So as I said I witnessed a bass getting caught in that area, just goes to show nature is a strange thing, in fact I will check the results to see if any cod have been caught as we have fished two comps there over the last couple of years.

if you fish the area behind the black bull pub/blaydon train station you get a lot of small codling n whiting mixed in with the flounder i once won a knockup with the lads from the pub with a bag of them nothing big think the biggest i have had is around 8oz mark but good fun on light carp gear av even had them up as far as newburn slipway but not in as many numbers furthest up i have seen sizeable one is B n Q at scotswood hope this helps
