  • Reelsport Mighty Thin

Bought this rod from Terry today and took it for a spin.

Can't believe the power to size ratio - it's basically a beefed up TTLD.

Casting great, very light and you can certainly take it on the rocks.

I slowed down the casts and hit them late...for better effect.

One thing I did notice was the 'feel' of the rod - holding it for a while coalie bites are properly 'telegraphed'

Bite detection in the stand OK but not brilliant (it's stiff) BUT it doesn't flap about - advantage of a stiff, thin blank.

    A great left field choice...recommended.

The response is thicker, heavier and longer but slightly softer - the mighty thin is about 13 foot, so in answer to Rod (who's idea of fun is a 14 foot raptor) , my reel is 4 inches from the butt to compensate..it didn't feel short though.

I think I read elsewhere that it is a hybrid TTLD and TTR but it feels very much like a 'next gen' rod, very stiff but not a total broom shank like a Kompressor SS for example which I thought was very difficult to use in the 'real world' and hated it/got rid.

Casting wise, no problems - true to Terry's comment to me about the gerabox butt being very noticeable, casting OTG or Pendulum was very easy - even wading into the surf with 2 foot of water lapping my chesties and swinging the lead around which is my test.

The response is more of an allrounder but I think 'last gen'.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that a thinner rod puts more pressure on your palm when cranking in something heavy - which was noticeable when pulling weed in. THe compensation is that it is thin so cuts through the wind and doesn't flap about.
