  • which reel ?

    hi
i am currently useing the okuma magnetix reel with level wind.
reason being is it was my first multiplier.now that i have getting used to it i want to upgrade but idealy stick with level wind till the end of this season.
i tryed my pal abu 7000i with level wind the other nite and it was alot smoother and i seemed to cast alot better with it.
was woundering what my option are on a new reel and whats avaliable for my budget but also good quality.
    any help would be great.
wanting to spend a max of £180
    thanks

using a multi with the level wind gone isnt that hard to use mate

there are a lot more options without level winds with them your very restricted for choice tbh

Why pay up to that 180 for something you want to change at the end of the season (levelwind). 180 will buy u a damn good multi (other lads will name specific ones) that don't have a level wind. I'm using a 6500 without the level wind and it was my first without one and won't go back now. A hour down the beach nd you'll soon be reeling in without noticing ur thumb action. Although I've said this I did think the reel I was bought had a level wind on but I soon got the hang of it.

        thanks for the reply.
dont want to seem daft here but being kinda new to the sport i dont wannah spend 180 -200 quid on a reel without level wind to buy it and go to use it and find i cant use it or get the hang of it,then will seem i have wasted my money.
        hope this makes sence
        thanks

you have done the hardest part mastering the casting of the reel you will pick it up easy its just a case of moving your thumb left to right

your casts will improve in distance aswell

as if there is anyone in your area you could have a go of their reel

if you were closer you could have had a try of my penn 515

a pal of mine has offered for me to go have a god of his penn 525 sometime.

ok so say i went for without levelwind...throw me some ideas of what would be a good first time multiplier without the LW ?
            thanks

I agree with the suggestions made, all top reels. But, If you are happy with the Okuma and you are comfortable with it, why not get the CT version of it.
You can get one new for around the £50 mark. If you want to spend more, the Slosh is most similar to the Okuma and is a cracking reel.

The reels are a very similar size and shape.
Agreed The Slosh has no mag brakes.

agree though the slosh is a good reel

                          and built like a tank

                            thanks for the reply.
one of the lad's i sometimes pick up if i am going fishing has very kindly gave me a slosh(30) reel for the favours but sadly it needs a bearing replaced in it he says as when you cast it is very noisey,so i shall be seeing about getting this fixed in the near future.
he has also offered to sell me his penn 525 that he hasnt had very long for £85 which seems reasonable as i know he payed £150 not long back.

i am still looking at the other models that yous have suggested in the mean time

                            thanks
