its very rare i buy it now for the same reasons. Seems an obsession with bass and a boat section of no interest. Suppose it is sea angler rather than shore angler though

Its complete trash. The editor has lost it. They introduce 'Bass Angler' taking up a third of the mag, then run a special this month on...Bass?! Ludicrous. There was an interesting letter written a few months ago discussing the direction of mag and how they have alienated huge numbers of readers with this Bass pish. They couldn't give a toss about anyone North of Wales and the home counties, where there's virtually no bass fisheries. Mel Russ comes back with this ridiculous and unnecessarily aggressive rant about how everyone likes to catch bass and the guys letter is so mis placed. Then to add insult to injury he give it 'letter of the month'. What to show how they are big enough to take criticism on the chin? Embarrassing.
Also, whats the point in having reviews if everything's going to be 10/10? Yeah, because your advertisements will dry up.
TSF at least tries to be different and more honest but the content is so poor. Every time I read it I just feel that I'm paying for Barney and co to globe trot on fishing trips without gaining anything useful for readers in the process.

It's the same with fresh water fishing literature.
Of course, what happens; is that as the techniques and tackle develop, they only trickle through to the wider world quite slowly. So we end up reading the same old tripe, time and time and time again, with the odd little more interesting tit bit chucked in now and then.
The thing is these days; you don't have to rely on waiting for a magazine to come out every month, hoping you will find something interesting in it.
You simply fire up the pc and away you go
Mind you, a magazine is ideal when you're sitting, having a break at work or whatever

to be honest i made rollie had a ponder on what i would want from a fishing magazine ....and i realised if they actually told me what i want to know they could probably cover it in 4 whole mags.. then no want would buy it after ...i wondered myself an editor and thought to myself .. i would probably be doing the same things as it is a truly slow to evolve sport... i wud subscribe it if it came with freebies that i want tho ....Punch and pull then let rip

what a joke the freebies they try to tempt you with to subscribe are just cheap crap that they buy in bulk CHEAP,
i still have a sea angler mag from 1979 which is not too bad a read , but now its total sh$te , its gone right downhill their scraping the barrel for decent articles and the writers of recent years dont have a clue tell more bull than pinnochio,
if a company that advertises with them sent a bamboo pole with a bit string and a safety pin on the end, theyd give it a 10/10 its a joke, might as well read the beano or dandyLast edited by rocketman; 20-10-2011, 09:46 PM.PLACES IVE FISHED..
