  • Opinions on Shimano Trinidad TN14 or Penn Torque 100

Can anyone tell me what they think of these reels in terms of actually fishing use as they sound good on paper and i dont want to invest with a high price tag and find they are not upto much.

Got a Torque 100,casts as well as 525 mag, will pull the plug out ,built like the proverbial outhouse and will probably last long enough to pass down to your kids.

The Torque is built for casting straight from the box.
The Trinidad is a boat reel that has to be modified to cast a decent distance.
I have 2 Trinidad 14,s and they are really good, but a cog has to be taken from the ratchet drag before thay are any good for casting. Also theres no braking system. My mate also has 2 Trini 14,s with mag brakes fitted and uses them all the time.We both use them with 20lb mono for places like Loch Etive.
The drag on the Trini is the best i,v found on any reel i,v had over the years.
I,v never used the Torque,so i can,t comment on them..

got a torque but only used it once found it was great for casting and great speed retreive and the drag its great, (think it would pull a pig up a cliff ) it clicks when you reel in like a slosh which i thought was a fault untill i read up that it was some sort of double drag system or some thing but all in all i love it

            Penn Torque 100

I've have a couple of them, this will be there 3rd sesson and I cannot fault them.

My friend had a 54ld cod in Norway on one in 200m of water, no bother at all.

Excellent build quality and casts really well.

            Pure winch as well.

Agreed all great reels, built to last for a lifetime,Maybe, depends where and what your going to catch on them.If your going to spend that kind of money,do you really want too,"take cogs out",..."have to add magnets",.Reels of this quality AND PRICE,anyway are wasted on anyfish where likely to catch from the shores of the UK.

If your really want to go down that road, get the best thats available bar none, although you may have to spend huge amounts of £££££££££££s,unless you look around online. Go for a reel from the Daiwa Saltiga range(multiplier, not fixed spool before someone jumps in).You wont have to alter them, take a part or two out,you wont have to put brakes in them, there in already, and you ll have all the shiney new bling you can handle of reels that will outlast most lifetimes.

                          Avet

Really must of improved them recently, the originals I was shown in UK had to be magged up as they had no brakes what so ever.

Pity they didnt change their colour scheme while they were at it
