  • New Apollo or Platinum GSI

Alrite lads - won't bore you with the detail but I've got an opportunity to pick up a new greys rod with some serious discount.

The question is - do I go for one of the new apollo range (extreme and distance) or do I go for the GSI?

It will be treat as an all rounder but needs to be able to handle the rough also.

    Any feedback appreciated

    Cheers

Not used the new rods yet but the Mk 3 apollo is cracking and the Platinum Gsi is a great all rounder and is as happy on the beach as it is in the thick kelp.
I fished Hartley Island with mine on Sunday and it pulled my gear back through that kelp no problem at all. The bite detection on the Gsi is also very good.
On the beach it will chuck a lead out a long way if you are a good caster and if like me your not so good it will still get you some good distance lol
Best shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach

I had my Platinum gsi snap on me the very first time I used it - clearly either a faulty one or damaged somewhere along the line. Got it replaced by Greys the very next day and had no problems since; in fact I liked the rod so much I bought another! That was four years ago and had no problems since and they've had a good thrashing in that time.

They will cope with just about everything, although if I were fishing all day in really heavy ground I'd probably take something a bit beefier like my Mk1 Apollo or Eliminator. I haven't tried the new Apollo's yet but they look very nice, quite light & crisp feeling.
