Thinking of trying some braid for the rough ground and wondering if any people on here use it for rough ground fishing and what do you use for pulling out of snags as dont fancy it cutting into my skin when pulling out of a snag.

Braid = 0 stretch
On multi keep thumb on reel, place rod horizontal with line walk back or pull back. you'll need to do this 3-4 ft max.
On fixed spool hold spool same process. No need for chair leg at all... :O
I know i'm probably get a post telling me that this is the wrong way and why... So please tell me, never knew why people put their hands in a dangerous position with mono under tension....Cod Mission: Cod over 5lb!
Success: 27/09/12
PB COD!!!: 9lb 13OZ!
Chance of Success?: Dismal, But possible!

For one thing when using strong braid for rock fishing (50lb to 80lb with it being so thin), holding the reel when pulling out of a snag could cause the bending of the internal spindle, could bend the spool or break the bale arm if using the fixed spool. You could also damage the drag if too much pressure is applied, and thumb pressure ain't gonna do much, unless you want a burnt thumb .
Do what the likes of my friends 'codseeker' and 'lambtonworm' said. Use a bit wood or metal bar with some grip, thus will save your hands from injury and your reels from the pressure when dealing with braid and a snag.South Shields & District SAC

I personally hate watching people using the spool on a multi as a snag pull out tool, it's got to totally f**k up yer line lay out on the spool even if you do pull free, so next cast may be a disaster. Not so bad with fixed spools I would have thought but having said that I was helping my mate pull out of a snag a few weeks ago, him pulling back with his fixed spool and me with his line over me shoulder and pulling with the hands, then suddenly, crack, line snapped and whipped back into me mitts, oucher, blood everywhere.
It was mono like.Last edited by g.ordon; 11-10-2011, 09:29 PM.
