rats i hate the bl****Y things, the only i animal i would go out of my way and exterminate and in my opinion the worst places are
    (1) ice house and the N S fish quay
    (2) rat house
    (3) glass centre followed closely by jarra park

did you know weils disease is not just from rats, cows can get it as well, learned that on health and safety course

But all these places are all overshadowed by the amount of big rats found at the customs house (mill dam)/middle docks area. The place is heaving with the foul bait stealing buggers. Go down there on a low tide and fish and then shine your headlight on the rocks below. All you will see is the eyeshine of many, many rats !

From past experience I absolutely hate wild rats, had too many close encounters fishing the mill dam. A can remember on one occasion when i was fishing on a cold November night.

I was sat on my seatbox in the corner next to the pontoon gate, happily watching my rod-tip nod away with small whiting. I had a packet of bluey infront of me that I had already half used. It was time to reel in the small whiting and as a stood up I remember feeling something underfoot and before a could react there was a really loud screaming noise...

I had accidentaly stood on the tail of a greedy rat that was stuffing itself on my bluey. I physically fell over with fright and that night I think a did 100mtrs away from me seat box faster than Usane Bolt ...

When a eventually creeped back to me away box am glad a reacted the way a did, and am glad a wore my steel toe boots... when a checked the ground around my fishing area a got a glimpse of me shoe and noticed a distinct bite mark where the rat had obviously struck out in self defence .

Always keep food and bait tucked away now in me seatbox and baitbox, never want an experience like that again.

The fish quay last year was crawling with them, however since the redevelopment of it i haven't seen any at all.
Fresh water fishing its got to be eden meadows which is the worst for rats when the harvesting was going on, they were swimming across the lake in front of me and could see them all day scuttling about.

As a lad the Old Man used to take me to fish Sharpness, around this time of the year, on those quiet evenings, like now, before the beach fishing kicked in. In those days the sewer pipe was still in situ, hence the **** Hill mark.

You'd be stood there, rod on toe and you'd hear them come out from the boulders at the top of the tide and they'd scurry down the pipe, their nails scraping on the concrete. The Old Man would never move but I'd be turning around at every sound. Every time I turned around the scurrying would stop, only to start again as soon as I resumed my seaward gaze.

As the noise got clearer and clearer the Old Man would pass me his gad, put both hands in his pockets and randomly pepper the area with stones he'd picked up on the way, for that very purpose.

Now that the pipe's gone I see hardly any (that and not fishing so often) but I bet they're still there.

Put chips in the bin and fu**ed off as the sight of a rat completely fu*ks my whole day up.
I had a look up cambois the day and was just thinking that the estuary bank next to north blyth could be a canny shot for them.
Been down to the Wear Glass Centre tonight.
Just after dark loads of Rats, 7 or 8 of them. You can see them literally coming up through the drain covers.

Stand still too long and they come up to you.

                    Yuk

Must be an inbuilt human instinct for some mate. I mean I can't ever remember being threatened by a rat like

You should read the paper or watch those documentaries about cleaning londons streets and else where...

A dunno if it was early this year or late last year, but the was the report of a few giant rats bring discovered and killed in peoples gardens, etc. The one that was all over the news and papers was 2ft 7inches long, with the tail being 1ft 5inched respectively. A long rat all the same, but it was the shear size/weight of the thing that caught peopled eyes...

These wernt just one off rats either, more and more were discovered down south, and this so called genetically bigger 'super rat' is being spotted more frequently in northern areas of the country.

Wouldn't want to find one of them in me bin if a had to put the rubbish oot on a dark night...

That is a coincidence mate, I've just this minute got me bag out to get ready for a sesh tomorrow and found a couple of rags in from last saturdays sesh up at eyemouth. F***in hangin.

Anyway what does constitute a big rat? Anyway, any rat does my napper in.
