the Gemini breakers which look similar to the ones 'Jimmy' use are £2.24 for a pack of 5 and have been told that they are the safest to use when putting a bit of power into a cast.

if you look at the animated pic on here its the same type of thing as it hits the water it pushes the plastic up and realeases the hinge for the lead to fall with weaker line on

Going by your theory then, a shockleader is no good then because a knot can fail, a lead link is no good either because the knot that holds it to the shockleader could fail.
At least my rotten bottoms lock the lead in place and it aint gonna seperate during a cast and let the lead fly anywhere.
