i would recommend 6500 mag mate ...i do mainly use a 525 mag tho and a slosh for my second but if u have just started out i find that the magnetic cast control on the abu has much better variance than my 525 ...and for that reason alone i would say go for second hand 6500 mag ct. could not fault mine even when i have strong wind against the direction of the cast... the 525 i feel is a lot faster tho ....Punch and pull then let rip

6500 reels aren't much cop for mixed ground - for your money I'd probably look for a 2nd hand Penn 525 mag / mag extra / supermag; you should be able to get a mint one for £70-80, a more worn one for £50-60. Load it with 18-20lb line (not too full to start with!) & a leader, and start with the mags on full. It'll be like casting with the handbrake on, so as you get used to it back the mags off a notch at a time until it feels comfortable - it's a reel that you can "grow into" as your technique improves & should serve you well whatever ground you choose to fish.

didnt see ur mixed - ruff comment. mate ..must have been typing the same time..yeah if thats the case u want the 525'pocket winch' mag. must say when i crossed from fixed spool to multiplier i learnt on a mitchell reel on the field then used a 535 mag gs. which was fine .. when i was really comfy with multipliers then i went for the 525 mag ...that was my learning curve ...Punch and pull then let rip
