  • Broken Savage Gear Bushwacker XLNT Rod

While fishing at the weekend I was reeling in a mackerel and noticed my rod tip had snapped on the above rod around 3" from the top ring. The rod has only been used 3 times and has not been knocked or damaged in any way.

Juist sent an email to the company that supplied it but it was bought July last year so not expecting a positive response from them.

Can I complain to Savage Gear?

Thats interesting. I googled to see if any one else had issues but could not find any posts. I have emailed the shop i bought it from, if I hear nothing from them then I will try and find the contact for Savage Gear and will contact them.
        Cheers

I had to contact them once when i needed a new handle for a fixed spool reel.
They were spot on and sent one free of charge.

Well I gave Svensden Sports a call. No joy!

Explained how the rod snapped on its 3rd use, not knocked or misused and it must be faulty. That’s it was a month out of warranty. Gave me a load of BS saying that is the nature of carbon fibre and that’s the risk you take when buying a rod! They offered to replace the tip section for £40 + postage.

I asked what if I did get a replacement tip and the same thing happened; he repeated that was the risk I took. I politely declined!

I will give Trading Standards a call and see if there is any recourse but not holding my breath!

I would keep away from these rods if anyone is contemplating getting one!

You had it more than 12 months? And its not the nature of carbon fibre mate, just a design fault. Trading standards the way forward. if its a common problem its their job to rectify it...

I have now gone back to the original supplier "Gary Evans" on the advice of trading standards and the legislation below. Will let you know what happens.
                Thanks

                Faulty goods and the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended);

The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) states that when a consumer buys goods from a trader they must be: as described; of a satisfactory quality; and fit for any purpose made known at the time of sale to the seller.

This legislation also states that the seller, not the manufacturer, is legally obliged to sort out a problem if the goods do not meet these requirements.

The law also says I have six years from the date of purchase to claim damages for faulty goods.

unfortunately the Law also states before 6months and they have to prove you've damaged it (beyond normal ware and tear). After 6months (void of any warranty with manufacturer or trader you have) the customer must prove they have not used the item in a excessive manner, and that it is a manufacturers defect.. any long or deep scratches will void any such warranty. tell SG that its a manufacturers defect and if proven wrong you will pay for investigation (therefore they have to take it back under this act).

                    Good news lads!

I hit the supplier with the Sales of Goods Act (revised) and they have now agreed to replace the broken section. They should have just done that in the first instance and saved me a lot of time and effort!
