  • Fish finders

Hello guys just been reading the total sea fishing mag and noticed the article on the hummingbird fish finder. Looks a good gadget to have but it's not my cup of tea coz I feel it spoils the fun of looking for them myself. Just wondering if any of you have one and do they really work.

Pic not a very good one

I have had one for 4 years now and its a handy piece of kit.
I originaly bought it for finding under water features when targeting certain fish, like Pike.
I do a lot of fishing in the Wear estuary and also fish a lot of matches there.
I now have a good idea of most of the features of the river bed when i fish most of the marks after spending a few hours with the Hummingbird. And it has paid off in catch returns. It does show up fish as well.
Its amazing how tightly packed shoals of fish can be in just a little area,IE in an eddy behind a feature when the tide is ripping.
Thats why you can be 10 yards from some one and they are catching loads of fish and you are catching nowt, happens a lot in pegged matches.

It only works up to 50 yds Trev.
Which is enough for what i bought it for....

What if you want to use it to find clean patches closer in than 50yards

saayyyy if you wanted to take your bairn out, could find him a nice little sandy patch 30-40yards out being able to see the bottom with one on them.

Good idea for spinning off the rock edge looking for pollock and stuff i recon, just wouldnt be arsed to do it or invest myself
