      Alan,
How many times have you fished the Railway in your career?

As a lad we used to get all of our lug from the Boat Station and, on the spring tides, we would plodge along the remains of the staithes and the Old Man would point out where to fish, but the chance to actually fish the end of the ebb and the bottom of the tide always eluded me as the prospect of taking a dip in those deep holes always put me off. Unfortunately I never saw the Railway when it was all sanded up and easy to fish from.

quite a few David, as long as you knew the way, like any other mark you where ok, had some nice cod from there, great bites in shallowish water close in real arm jurkers, must say I have never been so far out on rocks never mind sand where I was today, if the sand hadn't shifetd probably wouldn't of got there. Still penty lug there but the big king rag you used to get on the big tides on the sand bars are not there in the same numbers they used to be, only saw the one hole today and that was only because I was so far out, the first I have seen for years

I remember back in my youth, Johnny Nixon getting some very good bags off there in the Whitley matches - also going for a plunge on at least one occasion! I think one time when he was fishing it the fog came down, and he got a bit disoriented when wading off, finding himself coming off on Skitters skeers! Haven't been on myself for a long time - the last time I went to fish it the tide never really went off as it should & I couldn't get on.

              Railway end

One my favourite marks, shame dont get suitable tides and conditions coinsiding enough to fish it more often.Easier nowadays to get on,think lot the sand missing now from south end of beach is sitting on and around the railway.Still wouldnt recommend anyone trying it by themselves for a first time, or without going on with someone who knows when, and how to fish it,more importantly when too leave on the flood.
