I no you said ss pier but for Tynemouth Pier i use a 1 up 1 down rig the exact same one in the rig section on NESA front page just tweaked it a little with a booby bead on each hook length & loads of beads i am top of the Thursday league for LONGBENTON AND SEATON BURN SEA ANGLING CLUB and this is the only rig i will use as it bags up on flattys and the plaice love it had coalie on it and loads of codling from the river side of the pier. But in the end its up to you each to there own everyone has a different rig and a different reason for using it so each to there own.

winter, i like a simple pennel pully rig, with a alpha or gemini clip, 3/0 hooks and big baits.
summer, i think they call it a plymouth loop, but i have mine a little different incorperating a pully on both hooks, clipped for distance and bait presentation. i think the pully helps to hook fish, esspecially flats, and small hookes size 1 to 4s, Had a 4lb codling on a size 4 this year, reeled it up the wall no problem.
Keep things simple is my logic

yeah, thats the one, i love it, but have mine a little different to incorporate a double pully, just a personal preference, and components are all down to personal prefernce, like i dont like to use a cascade swivel, as its takeing the load of a cast with a pully so use a gemini clip.
But people use and modify their own rigs, use what works for you i say.

i was reading some magazine awhile ago and it stated for the northeast coast that the best rig to use is the pulley rig for rough ground. thats why im asking for. i was also wondering do you think rigs and the way they are made up effect what you catch or is it just the cast that helps you decide on what fish you catch and the bait you use.
