Had been assigned the job of taking out Julian and his two children,Hannah and Kieron, for a fishing session. They were all fairly inexperienced but keen as mustard. First job digging lugworm on Drummore beach - go on kids get your backs into it !!!! Also got them to knock a few limpets off the rocks as wrasse were our intended quarry.
I decided to take them to a new mark on the west side of the MOG I had been meaning to go to for ages. After a fair yomp and a bit fence climbing we eventually reached our rock mark. I set all 3 of them up with sliding floats baited with lug and tipped with limpet. Although not fishing and purely acting as ghillie first blood was to me. I took point on the yomp to the mark and managed to fall into a bramble covered hole LOL
The mark looked good and we had arrived two hours before high water. I was really hoping for them all to do well.
We had not long to wait and Hannah was first in with a pollack. Well done Hannah !!!! A quick photo and the fish was safely returned.
Kieron was next in with a rockling
The fishing was not helped by the fact that two seals had come in very close to us to watch the action. They stayed with us for the whole session despite being pelted with the occasional limpet.
Hannah was in next with a decent wrasse which gave her a good scrap on light gear. She was proving to be my star pupil.
Kieron was next in with a pollack. The smile says it all.
So the score was the kids 2 each and dad nil. Julian was dead keen to catch a fish and tried moving to a few different marks. It was not to be though,he just did not get a bite. Thats fishing for you though - been there and got that T-shirt. Check out this peregrine falcon which made a couple of visits to us. I just wish I had taken my SLR camera with me as I could really have zoomed in on it.
We packed in about an hour after high water and picked out an easier way back to the car. What a belting day out in good company. Also got a bottle of medicinal red off Julian,Hannah and Kieron for being coach for the day. I just love a happy ending.
