          MFA do an electric \"base camp\" light for about fifty quid.

          It looks like a car battery with a bulb on top but would stop any problems with bait contamination.
          Have you tried those \"10 BILLION (or there abouts) candle power\" spotlights? I imagine they would be great for spotting fish coming through the surf (not much use to me then)?
          Possible danger to shipping and nowegian night anglers eyesight though!

              tilley type lights are probally ok for beach fishing and nothing else, you cant beat a decent headlamp, light where you want it when you want it, would have a laugh watching someone trying to wade onto a skeer with one
