if it was youve probably just bought the best freshly dug rag your likely to get.
wet and soggy, cos its fresh not farmed crap mate.
you need to dry the worm in newspapers before you use it,then you will see just how alive it is
spot on mate thats what fresh dug rag is like kept in a enough water for them to move about and in a tray in the fridge or in water with a airstone ive about a 1lb the same in my fridge they keep for weeks just rinse them evrey day or 2 cos they crap a lot and turn water dark colour

i don't think that anglers are frightened of being barred from a tackle shop, i think the reason we put up with ****e bait is that we have no option, when we plan a sesh we want fresh bait so we go down to the nearest tackle on that day to purchase some fresh rag along with other baits, if the rag is ****e what do you do [****e live rag is better than no rag at all ] and there lies the problem we are not buying a loaf of bread to consume, we are buying fish bait, how do you explain to the the powers that be that this 4 oz of live rag i have just bought is out of date, i'm afraid that we just have to put up with it

aye some shops have s**t bait but as said youve possibly just got some really fresh worm

if lively but really slimey feeling there nice and fresh they just need dryin out a bit hence why the shops norm wrap them in news paper

you can tell when there no good go green and lifeless and start chucking their tails

I'm sure shops could do something about it! If they're getting crap from the supplier don't take it. I know shops that I've been in have told me they've got no bait cos they sent it back if it was rubbish. Most reputable dealers won't sell rubbish or you don't go back.

spot on mate thats what he has got i just thought on the last time i got it them from there the paper was soaking wet all you need to do is re-wrap it in fresh newspaper and the worms are no longer slimey and hard to hold etc or just throw a little sand on them

I used to get my rag direct from the digger when I lived in Portsmouth, usually dug that very tide. Spanking fresh wild rag will always be wet and slimy until its spent a bit of time wrapped in paper with peat or vermiculite to draw off some of the moisture.

Nowt to moan about there, it's when you are purposely given dead worm that p's me off.

i normally get my rag from flash fishing in seaton deleval he gets his rag dug in bangor north wales and its usually spot on tho i must admit the last batch was crap but ive not been back there yet and when i tell him im sure he'll sort summit out. the rest of the stuff there tackle wise is cheap rubbish but like i say his rag worm is normally top notch.

place i go to, i get it weighed and bagged in front of me.
                      Everyone gets crap bait sometimes.
But loyalty goes a long way, go back to the same place and become a regular and your bait situation improves in my experience.

                        wild rag

have had problems with worm in the past, it has always been farmed worm which I don't like. I now use A line baits at horsley Hill in south shields. have used since shop opened in april, wild rag weighed and sorted/wrapped in front of you. top quality, never had bad worm always excellent.
