  • A mad idea,or is it ??

Im chucking my old gas cooker out, coz wor lass wants a new high fangled do it all electric /gas hob grill microwave ,thingy ??, so I`v had a thought, what if I converted the old gas cooker into a smoker, I had a little look at it, well about an hour, and came up with this idea---, If you can imagine a standard old gas cooker,... the oven & above it the hob with the 4 gas rings & above that you have the grill, so it looks a bit like the number 6 from the side.. Well this is the idea, lop off the grill so all you have left is the oven & hob,and here is were it gets clever, you know the little draw at the bottom of the oven, one were you keep the Yorkshire pudding tins and all the other bits you never use but hang onto, just in case , well thats were you put the wood shavings ect, drill a few or more holes in the base or the oven to let the smoke in, that then can be regulated by the vent at the back of the oven, block it up with a damp cloth or let the smoke out, up to your own taste, or discretion.. the old hob can be boxed off with wood and used as a filleting table, the racks inside the the oven can be strategically placed, higher or lower depending how well smoked you want your fish, bacon , sausage or what ever, then ,even better, using the same principle, empty the draw at the bottom of the wood shavings & use charcoal, & hay presto you have a bbq, opening the door to regulate the heat,What do you lads think ? Am I mad or is it just a few too many beers, soz this will be done in the back yard not in the kitchen, Cheers Tich

you will need an air inlet to let the air in for the fuel to burn and an exhaust(flue) to let the air circulate to keep whatever your burning going made a few wood burning stoves from old gas bottles for allotments
    hope this helps

There will already be an air inlet too the oven (To burn the gas, while it was still a gas oven) so would too much air not be the problem? I have no idea how much air you need for a smoker to work. Not much i would have thought. I would track down where the oven gets its combustion air from and maybe think about blocking that off, maybe with a plate riveted so you can slide it over to adjust it? Ill be looking out for smoke signals al la Geronimo over the weekend lol
