imho nothing lower than 18lb and suitable shockleader.. depending on the weight of the lead u cast...dont forget to tighten ur clutch/drag before casting ...a finger stall / band aid helps when trying to hammer for distance...u can also use a thumbutton /cannon to aid casting ..
Well I know people who have 15lb line with an 80lb shocker and I know other people who just have 35lb straight through. I think it's all down to what you prefer. There are no right or wrong ways.

Not strictly true as 35lb line straight through should hold a weight in the cast but if casting a 6oz lead continuously and possible fraying of line could cause a snap off which is why people use shockleader. Not a law just what most people abide by
Put 15 lb on and a 15/50 tapered shock leader and couldn't believe the difference to my former set up with 25 lb straight through. At least 40% more casting distance and hitting 100 yards plus with no real effort. Just an overhead thump. Ta for the help lads.
