  • far too dangerous for words.

well as most of you suggested the sea was in no fit state to fish. had a look at the kings arms in seaton sluice which would have been a case of casting about 750 yards to get over massive breakers. so decided on blyth pier we lost 5 rigs in 2 hrs to weed snaggs etc. so i suggested tynemouth pier. went to check it out, and found the rnli land rover at the gates with blue lights on, at least 30ft waves over the top. then lifeboat was out with lights on checking the water up and down the pier, finally the helicopter was out with its light in the water. i hope no-one was hurt. must've been bloody crazy to try to make it along there. as everyone suggested fish safe. the fish will be there another day but you might not. spent an hr or so fishing the beach next to the pier but was pretty sh*te so called it a day. gonna use the rest of my bait tomorrow night , hopefully swell will have calmed right down and the cod will be starving .

23 July 2011 21:58: The all weather lifeboat was requested to launch by Humber Coastguard after people were seen at the end of Tynemouth pier during heavy seas, with waves crashing over the pier.

The lifeboat arrived on scene shortly after launching and the crew saw the three people who were fishing and appeared to be in no immediate danger, despite the sea conditions.

Members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade made their way through the pier tunnel to the pier end and it was decide that the fishermen were to be evacuated as the pier is closed at night and the Coastguard and Pier Watchmen were concerned for their safety.

The lifeboat stood by while the TVLB escorted the men off the pier and returned to station as soon as all were safe.

no one was hurt this time it was only a few years ago a fisherman was washed off and died

Maybe but have you never climbed a barrier , fence , round a gate or whatever to fish.

Maybe so - but there are times when it's safer to do it than others.

i was down last night and had a few canny coddling, one had to be 3 pound. the swell must be pushing the codling into the river coz it was running up the river.
