    going to give blyth pier a go today on the light gear, are people still catching or has it died right down from earlier in he mackie season?

    Was there sat night had a few small bites on bait then at first light we got 5 mackerel in about half hr. good luck pal.

      was there tuesday and it was very quiet but the dredger was in and out so that woulda threw a spanner in the works
      Nothing makes a fish bigger than ALMOST being caught

        norh pier amble/warkworth.

        fished the north pier yesterday,after a half hour walk in the baking sunshine to get there set up 1 rod with a cocktail of rag,mackie strips and mussel.total blank...set up other rod with a spinner and sure enuff mackie bashing commenced...had 2 with in 10mins 3 other lads using daylights had success aswell.good day had by all.....nice spot just a bloody mission to get there.

          Dredger? I don't think I've seen a dredger working Blyth Harbour since about the early 80's... have they got one back again at the mo?

            I hear rumours that DPD might be using Blyth so the dredger might make sense and getting the port ready?

              Ahh that's interesting, cheers mate. As a kid I always put the demise of the fish numbers and average sizes in Blyth harbour down to them stopping dredging it and fewer big ships coming and going (on the assumption that churning up the bottom stirred up food). As I got into my mid teens and realised it was the same story all over I got to thinking there was no link - so it'll be interesting to see what happens if they are dredging it again....
