Just back from Roker pier and witnessed a near fatality, just set up 50 yards from the end, the wind was howling, turned round to see 3 young lads about 15 years old dressed in shorts and tee shirts in 2 inflatable kayaks, getting blown out to sea, from inbetween the piers, 2 in 1 kayak and 1 in the other, the single lad then dropped his paddle and jumped out of the kayak to swim for it, as soon as he got out the wind took it and it started rolling out to sea, he then swam to the others, so there was now 3 in a single kayak, the guy next to me phoned the lifeguards, luckily another kayak came around the pier and went over to them, he could do nothing but stay with them, by the time the lifeguard on a jet ski got to them they where about 200yards outside the piers, it beggars belief that they could think they could go out to sea in these death traps.

them things should only be used in pools.when they were advitized for sale 1st thought was thats an accident waiting to happen.kids will be kids and these kids will buy out for a laugh and no doubt they were laughing when they 1st got in the kayak and tonight when they look back at it,cant believe a lot of lads on the site havent done somit as daft as these lads when they were younger and smile as they remember .pity it got out of hand and rescue services had to be called .just hope lessons were learnt by the lads and the council ban these inflatables..
i did just as daft mind ,me nd a mate bought an inflatable boat and decided to fish up where the subs is based up scotland.got washed out a fair bit but managed to get hold of the pontoon where the subs tie up.
ended up being rescued and taken into the base and getting the s t scared out of us by a couple of marines .
i cant condone what they have done but i can understand the excitment of it .

If a had of know that than fair enough its very silly. Those inflatable ones just cant be as good as the solid ones, though there are some very good ones for sale that I've seen in a tackle shop.South Shields & District SAC
