  • Montrose/Arbroath Info Please

    Afternoon,

I am up at Montrose on a training course on the 16th and 17th of February and am going to throw the shore gear in the car for the night times after the course.
Does anyone have any handy info on safe marks up there to fish in the darkness after the course please? Arbroath is within easy driving range and I don't mind driving there. I have never fished up that way before so any help will be greatfully received.

    Cheers,

    Graham.

    Montrose/Arbroath Info Please

Hi Graham, was up there a couple of days ago and weather conditions were atrocious. All I can do is advise you to use extreme caution if night fishing unknown marks - it was that bad! You could google the Arbroath web cam and see if things have calmed down a little? But see if you can get any marks recced in daylight beforehand and hopefully seek out local information. Best regards, Geoff.

Try Arbroath Harbor wall, the cages. be very careful if there's a sea on, or a big tide it washes right over the wall and can be very dangerous. I'd deffo scope it out in daytime first as mentioned above

Also you could try Gourdon Harbour, 13 miles north of Montrose.
2016 - Cod, Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard, Ling, Mackerel, Saithe, Scorpian fish. .

Inverbervie beach is a cracking shot if a big sea on as its steep and you just fish from up top near car or at the top of shale before it drops off. also Arbroath promanade fish the left hand side of of the boulders they have recently dumped there just as it bends around the corner about 50yards can't miss it! that's where most our fish came from two weeks ago al fish where in about 2ft of water don't by shy and fish it when rocks are still sticking out the surf that's when it fished best for us.
Stay clear of the rock marks if your new to the place and it has a big sea rolling as the sea up there is so unpredictable been hit a few times in daylight by freak waves that come out of nowhere lucky I'm always well away from the edge no mater how big or small it is up there not worth the risk. Take care good luck !!

Thank you for the help lads.
I will be up there in daylight on the first day and have a good look. One more question though. Does the cages mark empty out of water or is it fish able at any stage of the tide?

            Cheers,

            Graham.

I think it's just the first and second cage that holds water at low tide mate al the rest empty out only fished it at night when it's been on its way up but there is a gully that runs out to the right from cage 1 as you drive along the the wall have to be quick to get into them first two cages tho .

If you can try and get in cage 2 on the flood over high water
Vicky park is huge and from my experience can fish anytime just be careful as the rocks are lethal when wet
Usan either to the left or right of the farm will throw fish out as will the lighthouse at Montrose
Juts look for the black water

                      Hiya Reg,

The worst scenario occurred! I got called back to work early and am back bobbing around just off the coast of Shanghai! I had all my gear ready to go!
Thank you for the advice and fingers crossed I might get the training course re booked before the winter ends! Thanks Again.

                      Graham.
