Ian I had the same bother with my reel seat and according to Greys it is sorted now ,they are aware of the problem which was mentioned in a rod test recently in the Sea Angler, get in touch with your shop and if they can\'t sort it ,which they should, Greys will replace it.

you dont usually get a reel seat provide with some rods, if you do you have to specify where you want it fixed.

When i got my conoflex nemesis premiere, it had no reel seat on it ,i had to buy one seperatly and fit it , i cut a section out of reel seat and fitted a coasterto aid grip , end result a movable reel seat ...

Agree with Ian here,if the seat is part of the package/deal it should fit the rod.
Also agree with Jonny I had coasters on my Jupiter which I did\'nt like and changed it to a sliding reel seat which did\'nt fit,so I put some tape on it,saying that it was\'nt supplied by Greys,not sure if you can get different diameter seats though,cant remember now like

It is a known concern to Greys ,so it should be no problem to get it sorted, all I can think of is that it stock held before the problem was sorted .

Like you say Alan, if I had bought the fuji seperate I would have expected some sort of fitting to be required.

I would not expect it however considering it came with the rod and it is supposed to be moveable.

For Jonny\'s idea it would end up looking a bit manky with tape in two locations should I wish to change between high and low reel positions.

I\'m sure it\'s easy enough sorted.....fingers crossed.

had the 14ft appollo but couldnt get used to it i much prefer the 13ft version although when i spoke to martin watson about it he reckoned it was easier to cast with the reel down with the 14ft model

Fully agree with Ian and others. Paying out hard earned cash, (normally lots of the stuff !), for decent rods, you would at the very least expect the rod to have a decent reel seat fitted. Why should anyone have to muck around with sticky tape just to get the rod in a workable condition !!!!!!!. I wouldnt buy a car without an engine fitted so why buy a rod without a decent reel seat ?. Take it back to the shop Ian and get them to sort it. It seems to be the trend these days to sell items that need further cash spent on them in order for those items to actually perform what they are supposed to perform. At one time, when you bought a bicycle you got everything with it, (bell, mudguards, saddlebag etc,etc,), nowadays you are lucky to get the wheels included in the sale !

Just got back from speaking with John at ID as someone at work mentioned that it may have been a fixed seat. The manufacturers supply them loose then you tell theshop where to fix them when your happy.

John said it is supposed to be an adjustable fitting, but also mentioned the fact that they normally put tape under them so that the seat has got something to grip.

However he has also said he would swap it for one of the Penn coastal fittings when he gets one, hopefully by Friday.

Just hope this one works as it should.

My Axcellerator was fitted with a moveable seat when I bought it Ian. Once I had adjusted it to where I wanted it on the rod, it was as solid as a rock with no movement. I broke that seat by dropping a reel onto it and replaced the broken seat with an Imax version. The Imax seat is also as solid as a rock with no movement and I havent had to put tape under it to give it something to grip on. If John is going to sort it out for you, thats fine mate.

Ian i do agree with you mate ......paying money should provide a good service and your reel should be ready to use....but with the greys apollo they arnt.
get yourself a imax adjustable reel seat that means you just have to slide it down when you want your reel and the bottom. also add your reducer when putting your reel down the bottom position, easier for reeling in

Haven\'t been on much lately due to computer problems but for my opinion the Apollo Mk1 is much better than the MK 2. Greys recently sent me a new tip for my MK1 after I snapped it so looking good as new. I use it with a fuji winch fitting taped into place. A bit tape over the butt where you want it to sit and then taped top and bottom. Going to take it off though and tidy it up with some shrink tube to make it look a bit smarter to match the new tip.

I have to say though that I prefer my Conoflex Nemesis Plus SLR when beach fishing or mixed ground as it\'s more sensitive and user friendly. The Apollo is ideal though for the heavy ground. The Slr was bought with a Fuji winch fitting as well and put it on over shrink tube to make a snug fit and stop it getting scratched.
