  • Am I the luckiest or unluckiest guy on this site?

Just a daft post for a wet Saturday.

I fished regularly until my early twenties, then packed it in for other pursuits and never really missed it. Then 3 years ago, at Xmas I met a lady, Lynn who bowled me over!
One sunny spring day we were wondering what to do and from nowhere I suggested trying fishing. I looked out my ancient gear and off we went to a stocked trout loch. I set gear up, baited hooks and cast, Lynn did the catching! From that day she was hooked.....literally!
Since then she has learned to do everything including gutting and filleting the fish, the only thing she cannot do, years later, is cast!! She just cannot get the hang of it.
Anyway we have now moved on to sea fishing and charter boating, got all new gear and fish every week. I have fished more in the last 3 years than I have in my whole life! Lynn cannot get enough of it, any day, any weather, she wants to go out!
My question is, am I lucky??
None of my friends fish so I cant have a boys day out(she wouldnt let me go fishing without her anyway!?.) Guys on here seem to all go with their mates, or go alone and seem pleased to get away from the wife! So am I missing out?
What dyou guys think? Are you happy to go out fishing and get away from the wife, or would you like her to enjoy your hobby with you??

PS Dont tell her I wrote this!!

when i met my wife vicki, she used to come fishing with me she used to fish all the marks i did, eyemouth st abbs, mull , whitorn, portpatrick, rivers and piers, she even had a pass for the south pier in sunderland, we went every where together for five years, she caught fish after fish lol and some where big cod 9lb being her best, then in 92 our daughter was born and that was it she never fished again till our son was 4 ,, now she just comes down the river when i take the boy fishing for flats.
now the answer to ya question yes ya lucky cos a lot of women would not put up with it, especially going out three or four times a week,
but then again its great to get a break from the mrs now and again. and i have just read your post out to the wife and she said its great to tell you to go fishing so she can have peace and a break too lol.
so i guess we are lucky lads and have wives who like to fish and understand the need to go fishing, enjoy the sport mate

Forgot to say...she out fishes me 75% of the time!! Here's her best yet 13.5lb Pollack, beat everyone on the boat that day. Upset a few guys onboard, especially the ones that were moaning about a woman being on the charter! lol

LMFAO, to answer the OP's question, I think your kind of lucky in some sense but unlucky in another. IE it might be good to have her as a fishing buddy, the unlucky part being not getting any peace away from her.

Like some of the others it would drive me nuts having the moaning, I mean missus with me fishing. Tight lines all the same mate.

For me, the perfect wife / girlfriend would be an avid crabber and digger of worms, going to great lengths to get the finest bait available, but not too bothered about the rest of the fishing lark

Most people like to have a fishing buddy, so why not the wife? Nowt better than fishing a nice shore mark in summer and having the missus nearby reading whatever she's reading. So long as she keeps quiet, provides the nosh and has the tinnies ready on time I can't see a problem.
