  • South shields pier, crack of dawn!!!

Evening fellas, Me, Mark and Gary had an early start this morning, 5am on Shields pier on the hunt for some Mackerel! The trip didnt get off to the best of starts for Gary who broke his flask before we even got half way along the pier!

We got near the end and there was about 6 other lads already there and the Mackerel were getting hauled in all over the shop! We soon got our gear in the water and fished the seaward side first, Gary and Mark soon got in on the action both getting Mackerel within the first 15-20 mins leaving me thinking what am a doing wrong! Anyway I got off the mark soon after them with a small coalie!

Over the next 2 hours it was amazing fishing, we chopped and changed from fishing the seaward side to the river side, everyone on pier was catching, Mark got 3 Mackerel on his feathers twice in a hour! I reeled in a couple and me and Gary both literally cast in and within seconds had Mackerel on our hooks!

Around about 08:30am the fishing went quiet but to be honest my arm was killing me by then! Mark ended the morning by catching 10 Mackerel and 2 Coalie. I got 5 Coalie and 2 mackerel and gary got 5 mackerel. We all lost some gear, but who cares, was a beautiful morning and the fishing was excellent cant ask for more!

PS My mackerel bap with cheese that ave just scoffed tasted lush!!!!
