Be safe just put the herring come shad back, they are all to small to do much with anyway even if they are herring and you dont often get them tasting as good as smoked herring in the shops.

Back to Alan's POST...WILL DO IF WE GET ANY from now on

out of curiosity, has anybody compiled a list of take home sizes? I know dab, flounder, whiting and coalie as thats all ive caught so far.

never had a take home flounder or dab yet though

be good to get them marked on my measure and saves trawling through the internet..

sorry if this is a little off this topic, but the post has been deleted that got out of hand, however it was my post... lol so i would like to know what was said if someone is kind enough to inform me, or a mod PM'd me the post or what have you....

                  Thanks, Ryan.

P.S. charlton... does he need pics, as me and my friend had 5 between us, all around 10-14oz, and yes they where shad incase anyone disagrees, i think X number years of fishing, and years of studying marine biology to a BSc degree level at newcastle university kind of justifies that i have been trained, qualified and experienced to identify and fish species in an accurate manner. Although everyone makes mistakes just not this time

super Macquire you started that!!! tut tut..

It was actually a good thread until it got silly.....

As a beginner, I did not know you could catch Shad in this area. I also did not know they were a protected species..

I hope people arent put off putting their advice, opinions and what sometimes we deem as stupid questions on the site because some of us get a lot of benefit from these threads..

discussions are fabulous and fun, bullying behaviour / name calling is out of order..

Just the way the cookie crumbles.

The lad that started the argument (not SuperMAGuire) kinda dropped himself in it, and some members highly disagreed and took it to heart, me included.

Mind you, there was no need for all the swearing he did either, but its all cooled doon now.:

yeah, i was just trying to be informitive and warning people who may not realise while targeting mackerel and think they've got a bonus herring... many anglers have not even herd of shad.. even some experienced ones. They are quite difficult to tell part from herring at 1st glimps, but it is obvious really.

You do get good with the bad on forums, just need to let things drift over your head... haters will hate
