Anybody recommend a decent braid for spinning and plugging? Just been on holiday fishing ,used the cheap stuff off e bay from china and had a load of hassle with it twisting and knotting when casting.

Power Pro, excellent stuff. Not cheap but its quality stuff.
Could be that you've been unlucky to have some crappy braid but knots are usually as result of the braid not being tight enough on the spool. Coils get underneath each other and knot up when you cast (or birds nest if you're using a multi).
For fixed spool reels get into the habit of manually closing the bail arm after casting and then pulling about a foot or so of line off the reel against the drag before starting to wind back in. Then before your next cast again pull a little bit line off the reel against the drag before opening up the bail arm for the next cast. Just helps to keep everything nice and tight.
Light lures and slow retrieves are a recipe for wind knots as the braid just doesn't pack down tight. If you're doing this then its worthwhile doing a fast retrieve every so many casts just to try to pack the braid down.
Not saying you're not going to get the odd knot or two but the above does help.

i,ve used berkley fireline for a few years now with absolutely no problems.
its a little thinker than some braids as its round and coated.
as long as you load it on your reel in the right direction and you dont load the spool to its lip you,ll have no twisting or wind knots and no problems with slack line.
i even use it in 15lb on my small multiplier.
a little tip when loading with braid.
once you have your mono backing on and tied your braid to it. wind the knot onto the spool and put a turn of electricians tape over it, then continue to wind the braid over this.
i have found that the knot can work its way foreward through the braid causing it to snag when casting and cause crack offs.

I like Stren sonic-braid and Whiplash, both are thin and cast well. Firleline casts well, appears more durable than the Stren and Whiplash but is a lot thicker and stiffer until used a bit.
I’ve only used the Chinese braid on a boat where no casting was needed, it looked OK, slightly thicker than the Stren and Whiplash but thinner than Fireline.
I’ve used Spiderwire off the boat and thought it was rubbish, snapping far too easily. A friend used it for spinning and binned the lot of it after the first session because of all the tangles he suffered, other lines were OK so it wasn’t just a mismatch between ring spacing and reel.
Whichever line you get, it will be significantly thinner than mono and worth stepping up in breaking strain. The low stretch, thin diameter cutting through wind and water, and improved sensitivity mean I’ll never go back to mono now I’ve converted to braid.

iv use red spiderwire 30lb for spinning since last year and think its great iv not lost 1 spinner since i started using it as i find i can by hand pull the spinner free from the kelp beds, it flys off the reel when casting its the only braid iv ever used so cant say if its better or worse than others but im happy with it
