  • Penn 515 mag 2

Any one using the PENN 515 MAG 2 SEA FISHING MULTIPLIER REEL, what do you think of them.
Are they capable of casting good a distance and handling big fish.

    Hi,
I bought one at the end of last year. Personaly I think they are excellent little reels. They cast very well and very smoothly. I wouldn't use mine over rough ground as I fish with it on a tip tornado ultralite rod, casting a maximum of 4 ozs, and over clean open beaches.
Can't speak about what they are like handling 'big fish' but I have caught cod to 5 lbs, and bass to 3 lbs on it with absolutely no problems.
However I have no doubt whatsoever, that it would easily handle a double if used correctly.
Only downside is the price, but no doubt this will come down in time. Didn't put me off though, and I have no regrets.
    Cheers............BAZACODBASHA

Hi Mad,i used 1 a couple of weeks ago for practice before i bought 1,can honestly say i only had it half open using 5 oz and i was casting an extra 10-15 metres, find them to be lovely and smooth and retreive on them is excellent, was using my viper with the 525 mag 2 so can only say if i had opened it right up using OTG would have got a lot further,so would presume the 515 would be excellent for clean beach or river,my honest opinion is great reels go for one.

Seems they can do the business I am also considering the Penn 525 Mag 2.
My problem is i had a Penn reel 30 year ago and did not like it put me off the Penn make, I know their reels have come a long way since then and i am being daft but old habits die hard, i just needed to be reassured about the Penn make.

                Hi mate.

I've had my Penn 515 for some time now and can honestly say, hands down... its the best reel in me box and the best multiplier I've ever used to this date.

Am planning to get either another 515 or the new 525 later in the year after I've made other amendments, got me 18th b-day coming up in June and not wasting any money on nowt but me trip away to brighouse bay. Any money after that is getting kept for something/somebody.

Anyways in me opinion, the 515 would be a good pair up with a kompressor, not many reels of that size on the market either that sport a 6:1 retrieve...

Hi mate, Iv'e used a 535 for the last 10 years or so and have never had 1 problem with it, clamped onto my conoflex memesis+ its ideal for fishing the rocky marks, the penn multi's are bomb proof, my mate uses the 525 mag and loves it.
