Rod Advice

After a bit of advice chaps, sorry if the question has been asked before though.
Have recently started fishing again after many years off. Went to see Andy at Rutherfords about this time last year and picked up a fixed spool reel and diawa meanstreak 13ft beach caster to get me started. Am wanting to upgrade rods and try my hand at a multiplier. Got some good advice from an earlier post on reels but am unsure of rods, mine although it got me going is REALLY bouncy with anything more than fart speed wind making bite spotting difficult. Ill be mostly fishing of piers but would like to try off the beach once i get talking to people who do.

i use a sonik sk3 mate. Its solid in the wind and good on rock marks. Ive never tried it on a clean beach yet but i would think it would be ok for it. It wont break the bank either i got mine for 100 quid off sonik direct through thier own website. Depends on what you wanna spend tho really i love my sonik at the min but i think i will upgrade to a century eventually when the pennys allow lol . Cheers alan

Greys Apollo MK3 13ft or 14ft. Absolute dream to use on both beach and pier. Has all the power you need and will stay straight on all but the strongest northerly. I own one myself from same shop and it hasn't put a foot wrong since a bought it,1 1/2 years ago.

cheers guys, my budget is up to the 100 quid mark though. Have been looking about and found the Shimano Vengeance Surf 130 beach casting rod, anyone with any experience?

if ya got the pennys mick. I chose sonik solely on the price and a few reports. I have heard the same as you but ive never had bother with mine. I did go to the sonik place on
blyth industrial estate after i heard these bad reports and they rubbished the claims ( they would tho i know ) but i have been garaunteed that if the tip was to snap through normal use that it would be replaced free of charge (in writing). Cheers alan

greys apollo mk3, cant beat them, you can pick them up second hand for about £120.

IMHO - Sonik 4 - 14ft mate - Best rod I have ever used - Matched with a Penn 525 mag or Penn 850 Surfmaster. However divun Know if you will pick one up for 100 quid though. Hope you can. Whatever you get mate, enjoy your fishing. Tight lines

What about one of them ron thompson accelerator things. Heard there as stiff as a brittish upper lip and around a ton for a new one.

for ur money u can get a good 2nd had rod ...either greys / century/ zippy if u r really lucky ...new for that money u can try sonik sk3s and as mentioned above the axxelerator or imax equation ...gonna get head ripped off now...there is also the morpheus in fishing republic which pretty effing stiff too and probs wont budge in the wind ...

I used to own a greys apollo mk2 when I was a kid and didn't realise how good it was untill I got older I sold mine for £30 I've tried a couple since then and love them but havnt bought another yet the mk1 apollo I've heard is even better than the mk2 and mk3 and can be picked up 2nd hand for less than £100 defo gona be my next choice in rods

You can pick up some good rods second hand keep an eye out in the free papers you can pick up a good buy. I got a cono-flex enigma for £90 a few years back but av seen century and zippy advertised before depends on how desperate you are to have one as they only come up once in a while.

If your lookn for a new rod you might get a good deal up at the greys factory shop.

If you eva fancy fishn the beach bud I fish with a lad from whitburn and we'd be happy to give you a few pointers.

I second what Brian said. We fish Seaburn a fair lot in the winter (not a great deal about in the summer from beaches unless targetting plaice or bass) will be more than happy for you to come along. I fish mainly the river or the pier in the summer and on most fridays. Again happy for you to come along

Thanks for the offers lads that would be great, although my fishing trips might be a bit few and far between for the time being as my missus is due to drop our first any day now! I'll def be in touch once i get myself organised though.
