well another month or even a bit earlier and the anual return of the mackerel shoals will be apon us,now for me this noble little fish is probably the best fighting fish, pound for pound of all the spieces that inhabit our sea and it really dosen't get the respect it deserves, [i have had a 2lbs rainbow trout on and i can tell you a 1lb macky got a lot more fight in it] that was one for the fluff chuckers, and if it was not for them, the mackerel not the fluff chuckers our summer season would be pretty crap, use light gear and enjoy the terrific sport they can give you,but what i would like to know is what do you lads recon is the best of all time mackerel spinner, for me it's got to be the abu toby spinner but if you know a better one .

Dont matter, if it sinks and has any colour in the rainbow in a mackerel will take it..if your being picky 1oz fish shaped and silver..my best mackerel spinner is the cheapest one i can get or make as they will take anything that passes infront of them.................__................................ .............................

im giving blyth pier a shot again in the morn and im gonna take me little spin set up for inbetween casts. I totally agree with ya on the fight of a maccy on light gear i hope i get one 2moz like but i dont think so as its still a bit early. For me i just put on a hokkai trace with a nordic herring silver spinner on an that does the job for me like. Will let everyone know how i get on ladsNothing makes a fish bigger than ALMOST being caught

I’d go for the old school Abu krill or koster. They both cast well, catch well and are available cheaply from a particular ‘bay.Comment

Do you use hooks, paper clips will do the job
followed close second a 1mile surface net that Iceland use.

Lol how true, I can remember when I used to fish with my dad about 25 years ago and he used to tie a three hook trace up and bait fish but if there wasnt much about he'd twist on some kitchen foil and start pulling macky in, when they died off he'd just stick some bait back on n fish as a 3 hook flapper.Originally posted by northeast1 View Post
