It is odd how one can do so well and your mate next too you can struggle. Happened to me loads.

Well I was on there last night and managed a couple of Whiting and a Flounder. Was using a simple paternster rig with 4/0 pennel hooks and lugworm for bait.

Had plenty of bites once the ebb kicked in but they will have been Whiting hitting the bait and running. If I'd switched to a 2 hook clipdown rig with 1/0 or smaller hooks I'm certain I'd have had plenty more fish.

There were a few other rods on the pier last night but I only saw two codling come in on the drum and heard of a couple off the hard ground around the 70 mark

I know they are. I'm only kiddin'. I'll never use them. For a single hook rig a running ledger is better (if the lead is stationary on the bottom, no tanglyuppies). But most of the time I use a simple simple single hook (size 6.0) paternoster / flapper styley rig with an 18" (500mm) trace when I'm codding. I have got a trick but it's not the way I tell 'em, it's the way I tie them Paddy ;O)

I didn't fish it Geordie but I went to the weigh in. Talking about getting owld. I haven't fished much in 20 odd years. I used to be down all the time before I started working away about 1988. I knew George Tully (RIP) et al about 20 years before that. George worked at Pyrex when I served my time.

I'm back home now and I'm gonna start yukking again. I've just bought a Ugly Stick 30lb class 8'-0 boat rod and a Slosh. Not for boat fishing (I hate that) but just for shore fishing. It'll dee me marra, I canna cast much more than 80 yards with bait on anyway and 30 yards is mare than enough wirra git ball o'mussel. Cheers Geordie. I might see ya knockin' around. :O)

Knickers! Well we went & although I didn't use 2 rods I did alternate between rigs, a flapper on my 1st cast got a whitey, a pulley rig later on also got a whitey. My mate won again with a 3lb codling on a 2 hook flattie rig (2 boom set up)

Didn't see or hear of much else being caught on the North pier while we were there.
