Attaching shock leader

Hi Lads I posted something on here recently regarding shock leaders and bimini twist. i have managed to learn the bimini, i need to know if I am doing this correctly. All demonstrations I looked at showed the bimini being tied in the main line, (mine is 15lb) but non show ataching the shock leader to the main line. I am left with the bimini knot and a loop in the end of my main line, how do I attach the shock leader, I tied my shock leader on to the main line loop with a improved albright as when I tried a normal knot as if tying on a swivel or rig the loop just snapped. I realise the knot creates a week point in the loop. I seem to be getting away with the bimini and albright but need conformation this is safe and ok. any help would be appreciated. cheers

i use the figure of eight knot to join them, its never let me down yet, 3/0 hooks snap before the knot and i use good hooks.

pass the end of the leader through the loop, then wrap it three times round the twisted loop, then wrap it back down over the twisted loop and leader twice then put the end back through the loop and pull tight. hope it helps

Mates also use the knot Smoothound describes, which is easier to tie but a bit more bulky.

cheers for posting that gary, looks like a canny knot, the bimini may be relegated as that looks much easier to tie.

No probs Tony - I use it with the bimini twist for the rocks, but stopped using the bimini on lighter lines as I found that when in a fast-had I'd usually lose half a reel of line with it snapping in the middle. The slim-beauty on it's own is still mighty strong as it's tied with a double length of line - capable of pulling 15lb line out of snags at the fish quay with it & getting all my gear back (sometimes!), usually with a tangle of old net & weed on the end

thanks for the help lads, the slim beuty looks good and easy, i'm sure I will get quicker at the bimini but it as a right fart on.

I use the bimini to albright, but after being shown the slim beauty knot i have started using that with the bimini, however I also use the spider hitch and the slim beauty which imho is not that far off the strength of the bimini but it is a hell of a lot quicker to tie and can still pull you out of some snags

I learnt to tie the bimi about a year ago incase i head of on hols lookn for the big game.
I have neva bothered with the bimi for fishn in our waters as in my opinion its not needed when there's much easier knots lets face it we aint fishn for marlin,

i find it far to much hassle in winter with the wind and cold fingers when you just want to get your line back out.
All i use is a granny knot in the shockleader with your main line fed through it wet the granny knot and pull it as tight as possible then pull the main line through about 6 inches as the granny knot weakens your main line if you dont do this, then tie a grinner knot in your main line wet and pull tight as you ease it down.

I have used this knot now for about 3 years and not had a problem av pulled a 5.5lb codling up whitburn cliffs and it held, a few lads av met on the beaches in comps that av shown it to now use it instead of tryn to tie the bimi in winter.
