Suggestion for a location for night fishing this Friday.

Firstly I would like to say hello, first thread/post so I hope I dont mess this up.

I have just recently got back into fishing after about 15 years, had a few trips out and have most certainly caught the bug again (but not many fish ! hehe).

Me and a few friends are heading out this Friday at around 8pm and I think were going to end up fishing the tide out for a few hours, the turn, then the tide back in for 2 or 3 hours (roughly depending on location).

When I used to go fishing all the time (was never really hardcore, just enjoyed the day out more than anything) allot of that was done at Sandy Bay, the Tyne and every so often Cullernose Point, Rascarrel bay and a few other places I cant remember the names of but for the life of me I cant remember if any of those places were particularly good during the tide cycle I will be fishing on Friday.

Can anyone please post a few suggestions, we can travel but I dont fancy going as far as the Irish coast or anything like that, probably about as far as Cullernose Point at most.

I was planning on just taking a few bags of rag and a few lug and perhaps a couple of fillets of mackerel so if anyone who suggests a location could possibly suggest what baits I should consider taking that would also be fantastic.

Edit: Forgot to mention, dont mind river or beach, any type of location will be considered.

You could give somewhere like Druridge bay or the stretch between Sluice and Blyth a shot, should be flatties of all kinds kicking about at either, coalies and possibly the odd codling or bass.

Rock edges might turn up a bit more if you're geared up for some rougher ground.

Piers wise you've only really got Amble and Blyth this side of the Tyne to play with and I don't think there's been a great lot mentioned from either in the catch reports.

would probably give the river Tyne a shot if you are interested in a bit sport and not bothered about the size of the fish you are catching. Give the Fish quay a shot with either plain lug worm baits or if you can get it fresh or frozen crab and you will probably get a few codling or coalies, nothing special but a bit sport.
Like 5150 said you could also try the rock edges, such as cullercoats harbor area or even whitely pipe if the sea is flat calm and you have fished it a few times before, if not wouldn't go on if its your first time especially in the dark.
IMHO I would say your best bet if you want fish is to fish the river, but if your after the better sized ones then i would probably give the rough ground marks a shot. If your fishing the rock marks around cullercoats dont think you will be able to get on most of them till after 9 or later, maybe earlier with the harbour skeers at cullercoats.

Where ever you fish good luck and make sure you put a report on about how you did.

I am really warming to the Tyne, especially if I can park up nice and close and if it gets a bit chilly, nip in and stick the heaters on.

I dont know if any of you fella`s use Google Maps but I have found it very useful for tagging locations and doing reports on my days fishing (only been out twice since I restarted hehe).

Its been ages as I say since I fished and its been a couple of years at least since I even walked along the river so I am not sure if we still have access/parking for where I was considering.

This is my Google Map with a few tags of where I was thinking about trying on Friday, if anyone uses Google maps and wouldn't mind tagging a few locations if they think they might be better or better for parking then please do.

welcome dave,, i'm hoping to get to north shields fish quay on friday night, went there for the first time last friday and had a chat with some great lads,, i was using rag caught 1 eel and one small flounder but one of the other lads caught a cod well over a pound, have been advised by people who fish all the time there that the best baits are lug, runny down and peeler. you can park for free within 10 meters of ware you fish so is great for lazy sods like me lol,,, hope to see you there,, darren.

I tried your spot 1 two weeks ago. U can still park but leave car next to spillers, if the spot is free directly in front of where u park your car, you can fish from your boot, otherwise just walk a matter of yards further down but you car is always in view.

I couldnt make changes to your map, so made another quick one for you..

Just getting hang of maps thing so two boxes r mixed up and no matter how many time i save changes it reverts!, but parking box correct and place marker to fish from boot if avail correct.

the tides are looking good for the river so thats where i would be heading as what been said there is alot of smaller fish in the river but the chance if the odd half decent codling as for baits fresh or frozen crab has been taking most of the better fish,on your maps you are looking at the quey side where i think but never fished it lol the most likely species will be small codling,coalie and flounder so smaller hooks will be needed and best baits for up there would be crab again and rag tipped with mackrel
