  • ordering bait

rang up fishing republic for some bait and was told on phone we've got plenty but but you best order it just in case

So ordered some lug for me and a few lads so not to be dissapointed, as you cant just show up at a tackle shop and expect bait!!!!!

well now you order bait at 10am sat morning to pick up in the afternoon and you still cant expect to get bait even when ordering it!!!!!!!!!!!

Many thanks Fishing Republic for nearly ruining my days fishing, I've bought quite a bit of bait/tackle there over the years but never again will i set foot in that shop

I rang round other shops with not much luck and was told I should really order my bait then your 100% sure of getting some LOL you dont say.

My mate got some from North East Tackle Supplies cheers lads I'll be getting my bait and everything else from there now on

It's not that easy Eddie when you live away from the coast like I do. I see Clarky lives in Bishop Aukland which is even further.

For me it is the best part of a 15 mile drive just to get to the coast, like Clarky if I had ordered bait over the phone then got there to find they didn't have any I would have gone ballistic. Money is tight enough without wasting £6 on diesel because the bait you were promised has been sold to someone else.

In Clarky's case this naming and shaming has my full support. I always ring up and check there is bait before setting off (assuming I haven't ordered in advance) so if I was told "yes we have bait" only to turn up a couple of hours later to find none then that is bang out of order.

I've never used the shop in question and after reading this I never will. I usually get my bait from Gary in NETS and he is always very helpful and the bait is decent and he will continue to get my custom.

Didn't think there was a shop in Seaham since Gary shut the NETS there last month.

For me it is just under 15 miles to both Coast Road Tackle in Horden and NETS in Ryhope, just checked on Google Maps and it is the same to Seaham as well.

Its not far off 26 miles from Bishop Auckland to Hendon, not surprised the lad is p'd off.

Dont think there's anything new in a tackle shop saying they have plenty of lug & rag when you ring the shop in advance of you arriving there 20mins later to be told by the shop assistant "we've got none". Hang on a minute You told me you had loads 20mins ago. "Well we had a rush on" says the assistant. B*ll*cks

Dont get me wrong it was shocking that they done that to the lad but if i lived that far away i would still go down the day before to get me bait and do a bit homework on the mark i was fishing and to see what the water was like it would cost me more in fuel i know but i know i would have me bait.

I would be gutted if i went down on the day which i orded me bait and the bait was not in and i was geared up for a good fishing sesh and nee shops had bait in its all about planning a head but like i say if they said they had the bait in and it wasnt there when i got there i would be p***ed off.

I'd always get my bait the day before, unless it was a late club match which alas I know longer do (he he).But sh*t happens but for a shop to say they had a rush within 20 minutes find it hard to believe or the other granny were expecting it in with in an hour. I'm not putting fault at the shop owner its the employee/s telling you the first thing that comes into their head

Ive got 150 mile trip to the tackle shop and would be pretty gutted to find they had none, especially if ordered.
Have always found them pretty good though personally and got bait there when everywhere else sold out.

Alternative is just keep crab in the freezer, and then you know you've got bait for a certainty. Take it in a flask and what you don't use just goes back in the freezer after the sesh. OK, worm baits fish better at times but frozen crab is a good all round bait. Take the crab in a flask and also call into the tackle shop for worm, if they've got it then great, a variation of bait to chuck out. If they aint then just go ahead with crab only.
